About the volunteering opportunity

We regularly organize cooking events in various parts of Hamburg, where participants from different backgrounds chop, cook and eat together. The food is Syrian, Afghan, Eritrean, German or just as the chefs of the evening want it. There will also be plenty of time to get to know each other, chat, ask questions and laugh. In addition, we offer other meeting formats, such as a mobile kitchen, picnics, hikes, dance workshops or festivals.

Your Tasks

For the summer we have many ideas for cooking events and joint activities. We are constantly looking for helpers, currently mainly for

- the organization of cooking events (weekend)

- the organization of leisure activities (weekend)

- supervision of our mobile kitchen "Bolle", which will be a guest in the summer before district centers or e.g. refugee accommodations (occasional assignments also during the week from late afternoon)

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity you don't need any German skills.

All you need is the joy of lively encounters.

Time required

Project-based
On weekdays, on weekends

It's best to drop by as a guest at a cooking event and get to know our lively community. Then you can see in which area you would like to get involved and when. A one-time commitment is just as possible as a longer-term volunteer position, where you can also implement event ideas yourself. We're looking forward meeting you :)

Important notice

We offer diverse, meaningful activities with a lot of team spirit. There is plenty of room to get involved and develop your own ideas for meeting formats and implement them with a lively community!

Where?

Über den Tellerrand Hamburg e.V.

Über den Tellerrand Hamburg e.V.  ('Outside the box') promotes personal exchange between people with and without refugee experience and enables people to get to know each other at eye level. Through low-threshold and free encounter formats with a participatory approach, we break down prejudices and build friendships. We use cooking and eating together as an icebreaker and means of communication to bring people of different origins into dialogue.
