Are you looking for a suitable project in which you can volunteer in Munich? Then you’ve come to the right place. In this blog post, we’ll show you 5 selected organisations that would be very happy to have your support. You didn’t find the right project? Then you can have a look at many more opportunities to get involved in at vostel.de.
1 I Teach your computer skills to residents of a refugee shelter
medium german skills needed
The Diakonie München und Oberbayern supports people with a migration history through numerous offers such as computer rooms in the accommodation and support with PC activities.
As a volunteer, your computer skills are in demand! Pass them on to the residents and support them in creating CVs, applications or homework. In this way, you enable them to have a successful educational and professional career.
2 I Transport food for a women’s shelter and thus support homeless women and children
BASIC GERMAN SKILLS NEEDED
In addition to overnight rooms, the women’s shelter Karla 51 of the Evangelisches Hilfswerk München also runs a café, which is a safe space for women and offers meetings, cultural activities, counselling and food at low prices.
The team is currently looking for support for the transport of lunch for the guests of the café. This has to be collected in the form of lunch boxes in the north of Munich and brought to the women’s shelter. Do you have your own car and time on Tuesday and/or Thursday mornings? Then take over the transport and make sure that homeless women and children receive a decent lunch.
3 I Take photos at demos and creative actions of an animal rights association
MEDIUM GERMAN SKILLS NEEDED
ANIMALS UNITED e. V. campaigns for animals and their rights through education and public relations work. The association also participates in various demos and street actions to draw attention to the exploitation of animals.
Do you care about the welfare of animals and are you also enthusiastic about photography? Then accompany the activists as a photographer during their actions in Munich and the surrounding area and actively support animal rights.
4 I Become a supervisor for children’s and youth camps in the summer holidays
medium german skills needed
The non-profit organisation Fahrten-Ferne-Abenteuer Ferienwerk is an organiser of experiential education camps for children and young people and is looking for teamers to look after children and young people between the ages of 4 and 18 during the summer holidays.
As a teamer, you have a wide range of opportunities to work in Germany and abroad, and you will receive training and further education from the very first trip. From “Farm Camp”, “Climbing Camp” and “Wilderness Adventure” to “Water Rat Fun”, from “Canoeing” to “Language Experience London” – there are numerous topics from which you can choose your favourite theme. Would you like to be part of it? Then register now at Ferienwerk.
5 I Read to Munich primary school children
native german skills needed
Lesefüchse e. V. is a non-profit association and one of the largest regional reading initiatives in Germany. As a volunteer reader, you encourage primary school children, who are rarely or never read to at home, to read books. You encourage them to read for themselves and thus playfully expand their vocabulary.
Are you a bookworm yourself and would like to read to children in a primary school or city library once a week for an hour? Then grab your books and let’s go!
Still haven’t found the right project for which you would like to volunteer in Munich? Then you will find many more opportunities to get involved on vostel.de and hopefully also the right project for you!

Hi, We will be on an educational trip in Munich May 31–June 4. We have 3 teenagers and we would really like to volunteer to serve in some way. Unfortunately, we do not speak German (we are American). Can you recommend a way we can serve? Thank you!!
JanineRehn
Hi Liz! Thank you for your interest in volunteering via vostel.de! At the moment our partner organisations are mainly looking for longterm support. Unfortunately, the projects in which you can volunteer short term require at least some knowledge of the German language. Additionally, most organizations are looking for volunteers who are at least 16 years old. For these reasons we cannot recommend any volunteering opportunities for your group in Munich for the time being. Of course you can check again in a few weeks, whether new volunteering opportunities in Munich have come up on vostel.de (bit.ly/vostel_volunteer_munich). If you have any more questions, please send an e-mail at hello@vostel.de.
