Volunteer in Leipzig | 5 projects you can support right away

Leipzig Engagementmöglichkeiten im Sommer

You want to get involved and volunteer in Leipzig? Then you’ll find a selection of projects here that would be delighted to have your support. If you can’t find an exciting project for yourself here, you’ll find many more opportunities to volunteer in Leipzig at vostel.de.

1 I Support the design of the “Wirrwuchs” participatory garden in Paunsdorf

no german skills needed

Together with migrants and residents from Leipzig Paunsdorf, the team from the Wirrwuchs participatory garden is developing a garden as a sustainable and intercultural meeting place.

Would you like to help shape the garden? On an area of 1,340 m², you as a volunteer have a lot of space to create flower beds, cosy sitting areas, a greenhouse, small hiding places, playground equipment and raised beds. All you have to do is write a message to the team and you can be part of it.

2 I Translate texts for a non-profit centre for mathematics and science education

ADVANCED GERMAN SKILLS NEEDED

Inspirata is committed to exciting, everyday and entertaining approaches to maths and science. Primarily in its hands-on exhibition, but also with curriculum-related workshops for school classes.

As a volunteer you can support the project by translating texts. Depending on your preference, you can translate into German or into your own mother tongue. The material to be translated can be very different: From information boards on the exhibits to flyers or the homepage. With your translation, you make an important contribution to ensuring that the exhibition can be visited and understood by as many people as possible.

3 I Get actively involved against plastic waste in the team of Ozeankind e.V.

MEDIUM GERMAN SKILLS NEEDED

Ozeankind e.V. campaigns nationally and internationally with the help of recycling and educational projects for children for increased awareness in dealing with disposable plastic and against the ever-increasing littering of nature by throwaway plastic.

As a volunteer, you can become active in the team and support the planning and implementation of clean-ups, educational events or the acquisition of new members. Sounds like an exciting mission? Then join the mission and get in touch with the Leipzig regional group.

4 I Motivate and advise pupils who are the first in their family to study

BASIC GERMAN SKILLS NEEDED

ArbeiterKind.de encourages and supports all those who are the first in their family to study. More than 6000 volunteers are involved in over 80 local groups nationwide. At schools, information stands, open meetings or consultation hours, (former) students tell their own stories and thus encourage other people to study.

Would you like to motivate pupils and students with your own personal study experiences and pass on your knowledge about higher education to first-generation students? Then come to the next ArbeiterKind.de meeting in Leipzig without obligation and get to know the team!

5 I Support newcomers to settle in Leipzig

ADVANCED GERMAN SKILLS NEEDED

Start with a Friend connects immigrants and locals in tandems based on interests and needs. Ideally, this leads to a friendship; in any case, it creates a social network that makes it easier for newcomers to get started in Germany.

The content and scope of a tandem partnership ranges from spending leisure time together to organising a place at a daycare centre and applying to university. Would you like to create a tandem partnership yourself as a local? Then simply send a message to the Start with a Friend team.

Still haven’t found the right project for which you would like to volunteer in Leipzig? Then you will find many more opportunities to get involved on vostel.de and hopefully also the right project for you!
