The aim of the Special Olympics is to help people with mental disabilities gain more recognition, self-confidence and participation in society through sport. The Berlin 2021 State Games will take place under this motto from 13 to 15 August 2021. Around 1,000 participating people with and without mental disabilities will make the Berlin State Games a colourful and unforgettable inclusive sports festival.
As a volunteer, you will support the organisers with the accreditation of the athletes, accompany delegations or support the team of organisers in the sport of athletics. Do you want to be at the forefront of this unforgettable event? Then register now!
3 I Become an “election worker” for the Berlin Mobile Voting Booth 2021
MEDIUM GERMAN SKILLS NEEDED
In the time leading up to the Bundestag elections, the organisation Steps for Peace will present itself with a “voting booth” at various events, neighbourhood festivals or project days. The aim is to simulate voting and distribute background information on the elections in 2021 and on topics such as participation and the German Grundgesetz.
As an “election assistant”, you will help set up and dismantle the mobile voting booth, talk to passers-by and explain, among other things, the German electoral system and the principles of voting. If you would like to contribute to political education, then register now for one of the preparation workshops.
4 I Teach digital skills to refugees and migrant women
Medium german skills needed
The ReDI School of Digital Integration is a non-profit digital school for newcomers in Berlin. The school offers its female students a free and high-quality education, the opportunity to join the start-up and digital industry, and a physical platform to connect newcomers with locals.
As a volunteer, you will teach participants in introductory or basic computer skills courses (very basic level) and support them in their learning and inclusion process. Your support would be needed about once a week and you will receive curricula, training and organisation from ReDI School. Sounds like fun for you? Then get in touch with the team now.
5 I Support the clothing store of the Family Centre in Adalbertstraße
No german skills needed
The Adalbertstraße Family Centre is a place of encounter, education and advice for families of different cultures and lifestyles from the neighbourhood. The more than 70 services offered also include a clothing store. Here, families can exchange clothes for pregnant women and children, children’s shoes and toys, or take them home for a small donation.
Your task as a volunteer would be to sort donated clothes, sort out dirty or unusable clothes and keep the shelves of the clothing store tidy. Sounds like this could be your good deed of the day?
