1 I Volunteer to tutor students from disadvantaged backgrounds

medium german skills needed

Studenten bilden Schüler e. V. (SbS) is a non-profit association that organises free tutoring for children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds by volunteer students.

As a volunteer, you will regularly tutor your students and be available as a contact person. With just 1 hour per week, you can do a lot to support the children and young people on their educational path.

2 I Support the district café ” Kaffee, Kuchen & Klamotten” (“Coffee, Cake & Clothes”)

basic german skills needed

Every Thursday from 3 – 5 p.m., a wide variety of people meet at the district house leo for free coffee and cake and to spend a little time in pleasant conversation. There is also a clothing store and, if needed, advice from the leo team.

As a volunteer, you can help the leo team in the kitchen and serve coffee and cake. Of course, there will also be some time to talk to the visitors. The team is looking forward to hearing from you!

3 I Volunteer in an Oxfam Shop

ADVANCED GERMAN SKILLS NEEDED

In the Oxfam shops, volunteer teams sell donated items for a good cause and are thus committed to a just world without poverty. The profits benefit Oxfam’s development work.

Together with your team colleagues, as a volunteer you will ensure that the shop runs smoothly: accepting donations, sorting them, presenting them in the shop and advising customers. In addition, you can take part in campaign days and pass on Oxfam’s values and visions to customers. You will work one fixed shift per week (5 hours).

4 I Support a newcomer in Nuremberg by becoming a tandem partner

ADVANCED GERMAN SKILLS NEEDED

Start with a Friend is all about connecting, exchanging and, in the best case, making new friends. The social organization connects newcomers and locals into tandems. In this way, they want to make it easier for newcomers to arrive in Germany and build up a social network.

After an initial face-to-face meeting with the organization, tandem pairs are matched according to interests, needs and backgrounds. The two of you coordinate when you meet, what you do together or what your tandem needs help with, so you are always flexible in your time planning.

5 I Support the Zero Waste initiative for used furniture

MEDIUM GERMAN SKILLS NEEDED

Millions of good pieces of furniture end up in the bulky waste incinerator every year. Weitergeben.org has set itself the task of rescuing office, school and hotel furniture and placing it primarily with non-profit associations and organisations.

To ensure that as many people as possible (and thus also the organisations) learn about this donation-in-kind service, the association is looking for volunteers to distribute ready-made flyers in public spaces, e.g. on noticeboards in supermarkets. Sound like a little side hustle you’re up for? Then write to the team now.

Still haven’t found the right project for your volunteer work in Nuremberg? Then you will find many more opportunities to get involved on vostel.de and certainly the right project for you.
