Frau fährt Seniorinnen mit dem Rikscha spazieren

1 | Become a rickshaw driver for rides with senior citizens

The Cycling without Age initiative was founded in Denmark in 2012 and is now a permanent fixture in over fifty countries worldwide. This is now also the case at Bürgerstiftung Braunschweig. They want to share the joy of a bike ride with people who can no longer pedal under their own power.

As a volunteer, you will drive e-rickshaws with seniors from senior citizen and care facilities through nature and various parts of the city. You can give the seniors back a bit of mobility and enable them to be part of the mobile community again. At the same time, you can talk to people and do something for your fitness in the fresh air.

2 | Support the preservation of valuable biotopes and their biodiversity

For more than 40 years, the BUND Brunswick regional group has been looking after numerous different biotopes in the region, which are regularly maintained. And this pays off, because many rare and protected species could develop well at these sites. Thus, BUND makes an active and direct contribution to the preservation of biodiversity.

The team meets every Friday 2 – 6 pm for the work. After each activity there is coffee, cake and a nice get-together. You can join us at any time and decide for yourself how regularly you want to participate in the activities – whether every week or only 2 times a year. Every helping hand is gratefully accepted.

Ehrenamtliche bei Oxfam

3 | Volunteer at the Oxfam Shop

In the Oxfam stores, volunteer teams sell donated items for a good cause and are thus committed to a just world without poverty. The profits benefit Oxfam’s development work.

Together with your team colleagues, you will make sure that the store runs smoothly: accepting donations (clothes, books, household goods), sorting, pricing and presenting them in the store, advising customers, serving the cash register and settling accounts. In addition, you can participate in campaign days and pass on Oxfam’s values and visions to customers. For this you take over a fixed shift per week (5h).

4 I Assist the animal shelter in maintaining landscaped areas

The association Tierschutz Braunschweig gegr. 1882 e.V. has dedicated itself holistically to animal welfare. The association’s facilities include an animal shelter, animal cemetery, animal boarding facility and an animal rescue service.

For the maintenance of the site, the team is looking for dedicated people with a green thumb who enjoy gardening and green space maintenance on August 19 and 26 (both 2 – 6 pm). In addition to trees, hedges and lawns, the large grounds also feature an insect meadow and a new turtle enclosure as a new project that you can help shape as a volunteer. Sounds like the right mix of nature and animals? Then sign up now for one of the dates. The team is looking forward to meeting you!

5 I Become active in the Brunswick group of Amnesty International

Amnesty International is a non-profit organization operating worldwide with the aim of enforcing the rights defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The association writes appeal letters and petitions, organizes information tables, collects donations, organizes benefit concerts, accompanies cinema screenings, regularly organizes a radio program and an Amnesty regulars’ table.

As a volunteer, you can contribute to the team in Braunschweig in many different ways. No matter if you are good at designing flyers, shaping the social media channels or organizing events. You can contribute with your personal talents to stand up for human rights.

All activities are of course planned and implemented together as a team. So you don’t need any previous knowledge but can also grow into the work of the association. If you want to get to know the team first, you can do that once a month. The next get-to-know meeting is on 07 September.
