1 | Support the food distribution for homeless and homeless people
The Gast-Haus Ökumenische Wohnungslosen-Initiative e.V. is a meeting place with a welcoming guest room, in which one should feel comfortable as a guest, who usually lives under very difficult conditions on the fringes of society. We offer our hospitality, advice and help to every guest, just as they are, in a people-friendly atmosphere.
As a volunteer, you can support the guest house in serving food and serving guests. If you can give people a sympathetic ear and a smile, this is the place for you. The shifts take place every Tuesday and Wednesday from 15:45 to 20:15 and you can sign up directly for a shift via the button. The team and the guests are looking forward to meeting you!
2 | Take on an educational sponsorship for students from immigrant families
Schülerpaten Dortmund e.V. arranges and supervises 1:1 educational sponsorships between volunteers and students from immigrant families in Dortmund and the surrounding area. The goal of the sponsorships is to improve educational opportunities through individual and free tutoring, as well as to promote mutual exchange and social cohesion in the long term through a variety of encounters. All under the motto: Learn from each other. Understanding each other.
As an educational sponsor, you will provide individual tutoring for a child over a period of at least 6 months. You will meet once a week for 60-90 minutes at the child’s home. The content is based on the homework or the individual needs. After you have gotten to know each other a bit, there is also the possibility to do something together.
3 | Volunteer at the Oxfam Shop
In the Oxfam shops, volunteer teams sell donated items for a good cause and are thus committed to a just world without poverty. The profits benefit Oxfam’s development work.
Together with your team colleagues, as a volunteer you will ensure that the shop runs smoothly: accepting donations, sorting them, presenting them in the shop and advising customers. In addition, you can take part in campaign days and pass on Oxfam’s values and visions to customers. You will work one fixed shift per week (5 hours).
4 I Support the food distribution at the food bank
The Dortmunder Tafel is a registered charitable organization whose goal is to save perfectly good food from destruction and to pass it on to people in need. More than 400 employees work for the Tafel, passing on perfectly good food to 3,500 Tafel customers and to more than 30 social institutions in Dortmund.
As a supporter you would help once a week (approx. 6 hours) to set up and take down the salesroom in the Scharnhorst branch, to check the food and to support the customers with their purchases.

Learning and living tolerance: With Colored Glasses, the German Youth For Understanding Komitee e.V.
