Under the motto <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/explore\/tags\/werebettertogether\/\" target=\"_blank\">#wearebettertogether<\/a> numerous <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/vostel.de\/blog\/en\/2020\/05\/22\/neighbourhood-help-continue-to-support-risk-groups\/\" target=\"_blank\">neighbourhood<\/a> or <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/vostel.de\/blog\/en\/2020\/05\/04\/supportyourlocal\/\" target=\"_blank\">#supportyourlocal initiatives<\/a> have been formed. And <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/vostel.de\/blog\/en\/2020\/05\/14\/online-remote-volunteering-help-in-corona-times\/\" target=\"_blank\">remote and online volunteering opportunities<\/a> have gained enormous importance. Therefore we can only agree with the following statement of our Federal Minister of Family Affairs: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Commitment makes our society stronger and more worth living in. No matter whether analogue or digital. We see this now more than ever.<\/p><cite><strong>DR. FRANZISKA GIFFEY, FEDERAL MINISTER FOR FAMILY AFFAIRS, <\/strong> <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bmbfsfj.bund.de\/bmbfsfj\" target=\"_blank\">BMFSFJ<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"has-accent-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\">THIRD ENGAGEMENT REPORT<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Digital methods have supported, facilitated and in some cases made the commitment possible of recent weeks in many ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In mid-May, the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bmfsfj.de\/blob\/155410\/04560e9eb80b450caf3e253bb77c200e\/dritter-engagementbericht-data.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">third engagement report<\/a> commissioned by the Federal Government was published with the title &#8220;Zukunft Zivilgesellschaft: Junges Engagement im digitalen Zeitalter&#8221; (which means &#8220;The Future of Civil Society: Young Commitment in the Digital Age&#8221;).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It deals with the question of how social participation and voluntary commitment are changing as a result of digitalisation. And what potential and challenges this creates for commitment organisations. But also what significance digital platforms play and what consequences result from this for engagement policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vostel.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/cta-icons_vostel-o-mat-1024x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2366\" width=\"90\" height=\"90\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vostel.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/cta-icons_vostel-o-mat-1024x1024.png 1024w, https:\/\/vostel.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/cta-icons_vostel-o-mat-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/vostel.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/cta-icons_vostel-o-mat-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/vostel.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/cta-icons_vostel-o-mat-768x768.png 768w, https:\/\/vostel.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/cta-icons_vostel-o-mat-1536x1536.png 1536w, https:\/\/vostel.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/cta-icons_vostel-o-mat-2048x2048.png 2048w, https:\/\/vostel.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/cta-icons_vostel-o-mat-88x88.png 88w, https:\/\/vostel.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/cta-icons_vostel-o-mat-816x816.png 816w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 90px) 100vw, 90px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"has-accent-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\">In a nutshell: The key statements of the commitment report<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1 | Existing forms of engagement are not replaced by forms of digital engagement, but rather supplemented.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>43.2%<\/strong> of the respondents are considered to be <strong>digitally committed<\/strong>, i.e. they carry out their commitment partly, predominantly or even completely via digital media.<\/li><li><strong>A quarter<\/strong> of young people <strong>enter into social commitment via the Internet<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2 | Digitisation expands content and also becomes a topic of commitment itself.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>29%<\/strong> of young committed people pursue the<strong> goal of making the digital world a better place<\/strong>. <\/li><li>As a result, <strong>data protection<\/strong>, the <strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hate_speech\" target=\"_blank\">fight against hate speech<\/a><\/strong> or, in general, <strong>living together in a digitalised world<\/strong> are new topics of commitment.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3 | Commitment organizations perceive digitalisation as a structural change with potentials and challenges.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Potentials<\/strong> that can<strong> facilitate the<\/strong> <strong>work<\/strong> of the commitment organisations, for example in public relations, personnel and programme development, recruiting committed people or financing.<\/li><li>Due to a <strong>lack of resources and skills<\/strong>, digitalisation is becoming an additional <strong>challenge <\/strong>for some organisations and carries the <strong>risk of not being able to use this potential<\/strong> or of losing touch.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4 | Digital platforms are becoming increasingly important in the commitment sector.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>There is a <strong>coexistence <\/strong>of internationally established platforms alongside smaller, local and engagement-specific platforms.<\/li><li>Platforms use a<strong> wide range of algorithms<\/strong> and some support <strong>special elements<\/strong> of the commitment, e.g: Collecting donations or the placement of volunteers for charitable projects.<\/li><li>The different platforms have <strong>diverse business models and legal forms<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5 | Development towards a digitised civil society &#8211; helping to shape digitalisation in society as a whole.<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Designing digital infrastructures and tools is not perceived as a purely technological task, but as a <strong>social task<\/strong>.<\/li><li>In <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Open-source_model\" target=\"_blank\">open source<\/a> and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Civic_technology\" target=\"_blank\">civic tech<\/a> communities, civil society actors develop and test alternatives to private-sector digital services and thus also their competencies to help <strong>shape a digital society<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>If we have aroused your interest, you will find the central results and the detailed version of the engagement report <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmfsfj.de\/blob\/159512\/75022eae56070dc8e064bb5899335af1\/dritter-engagementbericht-englisch-data.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also we from <a href=\"https:\/\/vostel.de\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">vostel.de<\/a> were interviewed as experts.
