About the volunteering opportunity

Support in emergency overnight accommodation for homeless people Ohlauer Straße

In the emergency overnight stay Ohlauer Straße we offer Johanniter up to 100 homeless people with up to 10 dogs one overnight stay, a meal and washing facilities every day of the week. We are dependent on voluntary support to ensure that everything runs as smoothly as possible. By working with us, you can help people in great need in a very concrete way - and learn a lot about Berlin, about yourself and about being human.

New: We also urgently need help in our night shifts, where you and a Johanniter will work together to ensure that the night's rest goes well and that breakfast and check-out of the guests goes smoothly from 5 am. Of course, security staff are always on site during our shifts.

This way you can help

Your Tasks

There are many tasks that arise from running the accommodation, which you can take over according to your skills and desire:

  • the admission and bed allocation for organisational talents and foreign language speakers
  • the preparation and serving of meals for domestic talents
  • support and information for those who are particularly willing to help
  • the clothing store for the circumspect and orderly
  • the Springer services for universally gifted people

Whats needed

All areas of use except for kitchen service are free of prerequisites and suitable for every person. When preparing and serving food, possession of the "red card" (infection prevention instruction for food personnel) is mandatory - this can be applied for and purchased at the Berlin Health Office in Wilmersdorf.

German Skills

Please note: For this volunteering opportunity, you need German skills on the level „Advanced German skills“.

Other Things You Should Know

Important notice

Due to the current situation, the emergency overnight stay Ohlauer Straße has taken special hygienic measures and needs more urgently than ever voluntary support! Please make this decision responsibly and inform yourself about the hygiene measures on site to protect yourself and your fellow men!

Helpful here are the infection prevention measures of the Robert Koch Institute and the hygiene tips of the Federal Centre for Health Education.
