About the volunteering opportunity
🌱 Do you want to help shape the future? We are looking for volunteers to join us
We are EduGarden and are developing a special learning space for urban agriculture in Cologne with the "Grünes Wunder von Kalk" project. Together with an innovative school that is testing new educational concepts such as self-organized and experience-based learning, we are bringing vertical farming directly into the classroom.
In a new working group, we show pupils how to grow food without soil, with little water and in the middle of the city - and combine this with topics such as sustainability, nutrition and future skills.
Inclusion and community are particularly important to us.
We want to bring people from different walks of life together - for example, we are planning encounters between schoolchildren and senior citizens who learn, build and benefit from each other.
We are looking for volunteers who would like to join us:
🌿 help out (building, planting, tinkering, because we are still learning ourselves)
🌿 to work with young people and older generations
🌿 getting to know new educational formats
🌿 and be part of an open, diverse community
You don't need any previous knowledge - just motivation and curiosity.

Your Tasks

- work in the lab on an hourly basis and help with gardening
- help with the AG program
- someone who helps us with a few hours a month to design our website and social media and create content
- someone who is good at crafts. Vertical farming has as much to do with growing food as it does with crafts and technology!
- when working in the lab, we are also happy to welcome people with refugee experience and senior citizens who enjoy gardening!

What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, basic German skills are required.
Curiosity, enjoyment of learning and experimenting, fun in contact and working with children, understanding for people with participation needs, courage to try things out, an attitude that sees making mistakes as part of a learning process. For the digital, the corresponding knowledge.

We are looking for people to help out in the lab on a long-term basis. For the website and social media, it will be a few hours a month for someone who knows their way around. The same goes for manual and technical work.
Important notice
Certain prerequisites (measles vaccination, etc.) are required for working in the AG area when in contact with pupils.

Did you know that pink light makes lettuce sprout? That you don't need a bed of soil to garden, just a wall? That around 70% of the world's population will live in cities by 2050 and that it therefore makes sense and is sustainable to bring agriculture into the city and into the vertical?
We are the mueslis of our generation and we use innovative technical solutions. In our non-profit company, we want to build learning and experience centers for vertical farming and urban agriculture. In the near future, vertical farming will be part of a sustainable circular economy in the city. The UN's Green Cities Initiative recommends vertical farming as a building block of sustainable green urban development.
And we want to bring it to the center of society now. We are vertical farmers and we are social farmers. Because ALL means that we live the form of diversity and inclusion that nature uses to create resilient and living systems - in which EVERYONE can participate and get involved in shaping our future.
