About the volunteering opportunity

Based on the Dritte*Orte archive, it works wonderfully to activate people, bring people together and sensitize them to the diversity of people and places. It includes an interactive digital map (dritteortearchiv.com), to which anyone can contribute, an urban research backpack and a mobile archive. Anyone can make disappeared, existing or future places in Munich visible. Since the participating "urban researchers" can decide for themselves what exactly and how they want to remember, a polyphonic, new type of archive is created that is open to everyone - an archive from anyone. A small, dedicated team is behind the project. The idea and concept come from Miriam Worek (previously of the ZEITKAPSEL project).

Your Tasks

- Do you know of an existing place in Munich that is important to you, your neighborhood or others? You want
that your place is recorded as long as it still exists?
- Do you have a lost place that should not be forgotten or are you interested in the history of the city?
- Do you know of vacant, derelict or commercial sites that could be used differently in the future?
- Do you want to rediscover Munich and research special places, people or projects?
Then become an active urban researcher and make (your) place visible to everyone on our digital archive map
(
dritteortearchiv.com)!
There is an artistic-research method, the "cartography of things", which you can use as a guide or you can document the place in your own personal way. This can be done in analog form via a text or digitally with audio, video, photos or 3D scans. This is how the research could work:

- We will introduce you and, if you wish, equip you with the urban research backpack. In it you will find everything that can be useful for documenting (technology, inspiration, research diary, researcher's vest, memory markers, ...).
- You can browse through old photo albums and archives or talk to contemporary witnesses.
- You can sit down for a few hours, collect photos and objects that tell something about this place. You can get in touch with projects or people that you find interesting and interview them in real life or via Zoom or telephone.
- You can also take on a place that would not be visible without your involvement.

The short film on our website may give you a feel for what the Dritte*Orte Archive is all about. You can also find out more on the website under "Get involved".
Feel free to visit! Are you interested? Then write to us and we'll talk about everything else.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, basic German skills are required.
- Analog via text or digital (we have the technology or you can use your own devices).
- Different languages are also possible, the places can also be told in languages other than German.
- If you can't leave your apartment or have other needs, you can also participate!

Time required

Project-based
On average, you should allow 2 - 4 weeks and around 8 to 16 hours to create an article. Depending on the chosen location, you can do your research digitally from home or on the go in the city. At the beginning there is a researcher meeting or a conversation with us, where you get to know the project and the urban research backpack. We meet regularly to exchange ideas and (each of us individually) to sift through the collected material and prepare places for the digital archive. All of this can be done analog, but also digitally. We will support you there if necessary.

Location

This project is location independent.
