Volunteers needed to serve food at the emergency overnight stay at the container station

Our emergency shelter for homeless people at the container terminal is open year-round! We’re here for our guests even during the warmer months, offering overnight accommodations for 70 people, food, new clothing, and medical care, as well as social services and emotional support.

Activity: You will work in the evening. You will mainly assist with serving and preparing meals as well as in the scullery and cleaning the tables. You will also help prepare the evening meal, e.g. by cutting salads, etc. Or you can organize the evening with your own ideas together with the guests through a devotion, joint discussions, board games (e.g. chess, table tennis tournament, etc.) or a cinema evening.

Requirements: Generally of legal age; however, you can volunteer from the age of 16 with an accompanying adult. To volunteer, you must speak German or English or have a companion with you who speaks one of these two languages.
If you are pregnant or have a pre-existing health condition, we recommend that you consult the head of the facility to protect yourself.

What we are looking for: You are open to the life situations of homeless people. You keep an overview and enjoy working in a team. You are reliable and enjoy taking on responsibility. Most importantly, you have an open ear for our guests! It is important to us that we treat every guest as an equal. We particularly welcome volunteers who are close to the Christian faith or are Christians themselves. However, this attitude is not expected.

Time commitment: We are looking for a regular commitment. However, shorter assignments are also possible.

When: Monday to Sunday from 18:00 - 22:30
