Organisation and planning of meeting events for people with and without refugee background

We are looking for reinforcement for our team in the planning and implementation of encounter events. We mainly organise cooking evenings, where people with and without refugee background can meet, cook together and exchange ideas. The cooking is always different!

At each cooking event someone presents a dish from his/her home country, which is then prepared by all participants together. Afterwards we will of course have dinner together :) At the moment there are about 3 cooking evenings per month, one of them in cooperation with SWAF. But we also organise additional events like cooking courses and barbecues or take part in streetfestival. Since last year we also have a community garden, where we meet regularly during the warmer months and work together :)  

Your Tasks

The volunteer tasks include shopping and preparing the cooking evenings together, carrying out the event itself and cleaning up afterwards. Cooking, eating and tidying up is always done together with all participants. However, it is important that someone from the team is present to greet the participants and explain the process.

From April onwards we will also be growing vegetables together on a communal garden in Junkersdorf. We take care of all tasks together with all those who want to participate. But every week aresponsible person is appointed, who then makes sure that in the respective week at least on two days a group supplies the vegetables :)

Of course not every volunteer has to take care of an event every week, but we are looking for people for our team who want to get involved on a regular and long-term basis. It would be important for us to come to the monthly organisation meetings where we discuss and plan e.g. additional and new event formats (cooking courses, barbecues, street parties). 

What's needed

Openness, tolerance and appreciation towards other people are qualities that every volunteer must bring with them. Otherwise, it would be great if you were proactive and reliable.

Time required

We create spaces for encounters at eye level between people with and without refugee background. We organise cooking evenings and other meetings where people from different backgrounds and cultures can get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere and become friends.
