About the volunteering opportunity
This year, the Day of Honor will take place in Germany for the first time (https://www.ehrentag.de/ueber-den-ehrentag/). On the initiative of Frank-Walter Steinmeier, our constitution and democracy will be celebrated on 23.05.2026. Associations and civil society organizations are invited to participate and plan activities throughout Berlin. YOOW e.V. would also like to get involved on this day and set a visible sign of cross-generational commitment from young and old with its own campaign.
YOOW e.V. (Young and Old for One World) is an intergenerational, non-profit project that was founded in 2004 and has been operating as a registered association since 2008. We bring people from different generations together and campaign for a fair and livable world. Among other things, we were active in Sierra Leone for ten years; we also supported young refugees in Berlin from 2015 to 2018. We are currently working with a partner organization in Malawi to implement a cultural center for education and medical care. We can and would like to address all of these topics on the Day of Honor and incorporate them into our campaign.
Your Tasks
We are looking for committed people who would like to support us with ideas and with the planning and implementation of our campaign on 23 May. Every idea, every impulse and every form of assistance is valuable and contributes to the success of the day.
Experience in project implementation or in coordinating several groups of people is an advantage, but not a prerequisite. The most important things are motivation, interest in the topic and a willingness to get actively involved.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity you don't need any German skills.

Young and Old for One World: younger and older people who want to create a fair and liveable world together. We carry out development work on the African continent in close cooperation with local partner organizations.
In Malawi, together with the Chiuno NGO, we are building the Chiuno Cultural Center, which includes a kindergarten, an elementary school and opportunities for vocational training and medical care.
YOOW was founded in 2004 and has successfully implemented projects in Sierra Leone and training programs for young refugees in Berlin since 2008.
