About the volunteering opportunity
SCHLAU is a voluntary educational and awareness-raising project on the topics of sexual, romantic and gender diversity. In workshops with school classes, teenagers and young adults, volunteer teams offer the opportunity to talk to young lesbian, gay, bi, trans*, inter* and queer people. Using pedagogical methods and evaluated concepts, we introduce the topics in a low-threshold and unagitated manner. We talk about life realities and biographies, coming out, experiences of discrimination, prejudices and role models.
Your Tasks
Our teamers moderate, motivate, intervene and organize the SCHLAU workshops. They provide a low-threshold and age-appropriate introduction to the topics of sexual and romantic orientation and gender identity with the help of terminology and selected methods. In autobiographical discussions, they provide an insight into their personal biographies, answer questions from participants and address prejudices and role models.
We also regularly organize information stands. In addition to supervising interactive activities, such as a queer memory game or making bead bracelets, the main aim is to make our project visible and get people talking about queerness.

What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
Due to the extremely positive response to our work, we are always looking for young people who would like to join us! You don't need any experience in youth work.
The only requirements are that you yourself have a story related to the topic of LGBTQIA* and are willing to talk about personal experiences (such as coming out or experiences of discrimination).
You should also enjoy working with young people and being part of a volunteer team.
Time required
Regularly
Discussed individually
On weekdays, during the day
As we always have a high demand for our workshops, we are looking for volunteers who can lead at least one workshop per month. In addition, there are 2-3 team meetings per month where we get to know each other better as a team and talk about the project. How much capacity individual team members have can be discussed individually.
Important notice
If you would like to know more about our work or can imagine joining us, simply send us a message or email (info@schlau-goettingen.de) and we will arrange a meeting to get to know each other.
SCHLAU Göttingen
We are a voluntary educational and awareness-raising project on the topics of sexual and gender diversity. Our work counters discrimination, homophobia and trans-hostility. To this end, we run workshops in educational institutions so that participants have the opportunity to ask their questions about queer issues anonymously and also gain new information about sexual and gender diversity.
