About the volunteering opportunity
In the “LebensKisten – Memories That Touch the Heart” project, you’ll help older adults bring their life stories to life. Together, you’ll create personalized memory boxes filled with personal items, photos, music, scents, or short writings.
Your involvement helps reduce social isolation, boost joy in life, and build relationships. These boxes can be a particularly important source of support for people with early-stage dementia.
Before you begin your volunteer work, you’ll receive training that prepares you for biographical work, conversation techniques, and interacting sensitively with participants.
Your Tasks
You engage in empathetic conversations, listen, and collect memories from the seniors’ lives. Based on this, you work with them to put together a very personal “Life Box,” which is used in everyday life to trigger memories, spark conversations, and create emotional moments.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.
What You Bring to the Table
- An interest in working with older adults
- Empathy and sensitivity
- Patience and reliability
- Enjoyment of listening and conversation
- Sensitivity when dealing with personal life stories

General Conditions
- Assignment over a period of several weeks (project phase)
- Flexible time commitment; approximately 1–2 appointments per week possible
- Location: DRK Senior Center in Vorsfelde
