About the volunteering opportunity
At our Vorsfelde Senior Center, we want to encourage the joy of storytelling. To that end, we’re looking for dedicated story readers.
Do you enjoy reading and would you like to share this passion with seniors? Then you’ve come to the right place!
Your Tasks
We are looking for dedicated individuals to lead regular reading sessions for residents of a senior center. In a quiet and pleasant atmosphere, stories, poems, newspaper articles, or book excerpts are read aloud, tailored to the interests and needs of the participants. The goal is to bring variety to their daily lives, evoke memories, and encourage social interaction and conversation. Participants can be actively involved by expressing their own preferences or joining in discussions about the content.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.
- Patience and understanding, even when content or questions are repeated
- Empathy when interacting with older adults
- Enjoyment of reading (aloud)
- Ability to read aloud calmly, clearly, and comprehensibly
- A friendly, open demeanor
- Reliability and consistency
- Willingness to engage in conversation

Ideally, you’ll be able to set aside 1–2 hours at least once a month for your new volunteer role. We’d love it if you could come more often so our guests can get to know you better.
