About the volunteering opportunity

wellcome – Practical Help After Childbirth is a modern form of neighborhood support. Despite the joy of having a new baby, for many families, the usual chaos begins at home after the birth: the baby cries, no one goes grocery shopping, the older sibling is jealous, or the worried father hasn’t started his parental leave yet. At wellcome, volunteers lend a helping hand to families who need support and relief in their daily lives after the birth. The volunteers help just as family, neighbors, or friends would. They enjoy spending time with children and often bring their own unique experiences from the adventure of family life. No special professional qualifications are required for this role. What matters most for volunteering with wellcome is personal competence. Important qualities include discretion, reliability, a calm demeanor, and, of course, a loving and confident way of interacting with children.

Your Tasks

You visit the family at home once or twice a week for two to three hours and provide practical help with everyday tasks: for example, you watch over the baby while the mother rests, take the baby for a walk, or play with the baby’s sibling. A wellcome assignment lasts between six weeks and several months. Afterward, you decide whether to start another assignment right away or take a “break” for a while.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
No special qualifications are required, as you will receive excellent support from your team coordinator. You are required to submit an extended police background check. However, there are no costs involved.
