About the volunteering opportunity

Successfully completing a dual vocational training program is associated with a variety of requirements for trainees. Not all of them are up to it. Therefore, too many young people still drop out of their training prematurely. Our mentoring project "Mentoring for trainees" starts there, with the aim of "Ensuring training success - avoiding interruptions".
We rely on individual 1:1 mentoring outside the training company. You as a mentor are the contact person for youths or young adults in the dual vocational training system. Your tasks as a mentor are based on the goals set by the mentee as well as the agreed contents. The aim is to successfully master challenges in a relationship of trust and thus to promote the professional and personal development of the trainee. Mentors and mentees are brought together in a targeted matching process based on the initial situation. The individual support includes a 14-day contact rhythm (by arrangement between mentor and mentee) in person, by telephone and/or by e-mail, WhatsApp etc.

How we support you in the project:

  • Expense allowance
  • Free qualifications and workshops for mentors with certificate
  • Supervision and support during the project by permanent project coordinators (Nils Wöhrle)
  • Regular mentor coaching
  • Joint events (e.g. Christmas party, summer party)
  • Certificate of participation for volunteer work in the project
  • Volunteer pass

Your Tasks

You as a mentor accompany and strengthen young people individually, you understand the trainees' point of view, you are the trustworthy, neutral contact person, you pass on personal knowledge and experience in the course of regular meetings, you provide support in case of uncertainties and the endurance of unaccustomed stress, you lead to new perspectives that help young people to solve problems independently.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
Those are your strengths:

  • Well-established personality
  • Empathy
  • Advisory skills
  • Intercultural skills
  • Joy in dealing with young people
  • Experience as an instructor or similar is desirable (not a requirement)
  • Openness and design of the support as a consulting and exchange cooperation

Time required

Regularly
Discussed individually
The support required depends on the needs of the trainee, but can be set out in advance in a mentoring agreement.
If you have a specific amount of time available, this can also be agreed in the mentoring agreement.

Important notice

We need an extended certificate of good conduct due to our work with young adults. You will receive a letter from us for a free issue for the application.
