youngcaritas is the platform of the Caritas for the social engagement of young people.
*vergissmeinnicht* is the Upcycling-Project of youngcaritas Berlin. We design, sew and sell accessories for a good purpose. Blazers are transformed into backpacks, shirts into pillowcases, ...
Like recycling, upcycling is a way of avoiding the generation of waste. Upcycling means using waste as material for creating new products. In contrast to recycling, less energy is needed to create something new. In addition, the quality of the waste is not lessened, but augmented.
In the project *vergissmeinnicht* we create new things out of old ones. And give it even a social purpose! We sell our products at markets in Berlin and Potsdam - the earned money is going to social projects of the "Caritasverbands des Erzbistum Berlin e.V." so that people in need can benefit from it.
We've got sewing machines, patterns and material on site. In case you've never sewn before, you'll get a short introduction to the sewing machine and will be supported during your sewing projects. We are learning from and with each other and are looking forward to new creative ideas! Our materials and cloths come from the surplus of the Caritas Kleiderkammer in Berlin and are proceeded in our project.
Working together on equal terms and respect is very important to us. As a volunteer of youngcaritas Berlin you can share your time, ideas and know-how and fulfill yourself. You don't need previous experience in sewing and tailoring, although they would be advantageous.
Please note: For this volunteering opportunity, you need German skills on the level „Basic German skills“.
Your support is needed on a long-term basis.
Am I covered by accident and/or casualty insurance during the project?
