We are looking for people who speak German as well as at least one other language, ideally almost perfectly, or who at least have the confidence to interpret in the language at medical appointments. We receive several requests for language mediation every week and our current pool of interpreters would like to grow. Among the languages requested are mainly French, Spanish and Arabic. But we still welcome any language we can add to our list, especially Farsi, Urdu, Kurdish, Georgian, Romanian and Russian!
The requests come either from people with language barriers directly, or from social workers who care for them, for example, in shared accommodation or homeless services. We then pass on the request to our volunteers and are available for questions and explanations. We also try to include further education offers, such as workshops or literature, on culturally sensitive language teaching in our offer.
When you join our group you will get our requests forwarded via a Telegram group. You can text us then privately in case you want to do the appointment. We then forward you our information and send you a disclosure form.
German on min. B2 level and one further foreign language (desirable min. B2)
Before the first language mediation, there is a confidentiality agreement to be signed and returned, as well as an invitation to participate in a plenary session to get to know our group.
Hello, we are a group of people who arrange voluntary and free language med iation for people with language barriers without other alternatives in Leipzig. We are looking for support in the organizing group (answering emails, mediating requests, networking, ...), as well as motivated language mediators for all languages! We are especially looking for Persian, Urdu, Tiginya and Romanian, but of course everyone is an enrichment!
We are looking forward to you!More about the organisation
