The Youth Art and Culture Center "Gérard Philipe" (JuKuz) was inaugurated in the fall of 1999 and is a house where social pedagogues, educators and artists create art and culture together with children and young people. With its artistically creative workshops, a foyer café and a hall for theatre, dance and other events, a girls' and young people's room and a large garden for outdoor activities, the JuKuz is an open house for children and young people aged 9-21 who want to discover and develop their own creativity.
Behind the JuKuz is a beautiful large garden where visitors to the house can jump on the trampoline or gossip with friends. Surrounded by trees and wild plants, the garden offers a bit of peace and quiet away from Karl-Kunger-Straße - and is still right in the middle of the neighbourhood!
In order to keep the garden beautiful for the young people in the JuKuz, we are currently looking for 1-2 garden-enthusiastic volunteers who have the time and desire to take care of the garden. The parks department already takes care of mowing the lawn and pruning the trees, but there is still a lot of potential and room for your ideas!
You are welcome to visit the garden during a get-to-know-you meeting. Equipment is available in a garden shed and there is also a small budget to purchase seeds etc.
The garden is regularly open Monday to Saturday 1pm-8pm. A longer term regular commitment is desired (ideally a few hours a week for a whole gardening season). Hours of work can be arranged flexibly with the JuKuz.
At the JuKuz, full-time staff and volunteers work together in a dedicated team to ensure that the JuKuz remains an attractive and open place for all children and young people from the neighbourhood.
Would you like to grow vegetables, wild herbs? Bee-friendly flowers? The JuKuz team is looking forward to meeting you! Any form of assistance is welcome!
Possible tasks include:
- Maintenance of the raised beds
- Weeding/wild growth
- Watering flowers
- seasonal task, e.g. frost protection, pest control, pruning, etc.
Gardening experience would be great but not essential - more important to us is your commitment and willingness to help shape the garden.
The garden is regularly open Mondays to Saturdays from 1 to 8 p.m. Work times can be arranged directly with the JuKuz. A longer-term regular commitment is desired (a few hours per week for at least an entire garden season would be ideal).
Please only volunteers over 18 years old
