About the volunteering opportunity
During the winter months, from November through April, the Berlin City Mission operates a total of four emergency shelters.
Many people who would otherwise have to spend the night outside in the cold find shelter here,
something to eat, clothing, medical care, counseling, and emotional support.

Your Tasks
Duties: You’ll be working in the evening. You’ll serve meals to the guests, pick up donations from the main train station, and take care of the dishwashing area. If needed, you’ll help out in the clothing room, at the luggage drop-off, or in the sleeping area. If you’d like, you can help shape the evening by playing music or leading a prayer, or by striking up conversations with guests.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity you don't need any German skills.
Requirements: To volunteer for this position, you must be at least 18 years old, speak German or English, or be accompanied by someone who speaks one of these languages and can translate. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, we recommend that you consult with your doctor and the facility’s management for your own protection. Unfortunately, you cannot participate in this volunteer role if you are pregnant.
Here’s why you’ll enjoy this volunteer role: You’re open to understanding the life situations of homeless people. You stay organized and enjoy working as part of a team. You are reliable and enjoy taking on responsibility. Most importantly: You listen attentively to our guests and interact with them in a caring, tolerant, fair, and de-escalating manner.
You treat every guest with kindness, respect, and as an equal.
