About the volunteering opportunity

You are interested in gardening and enjoy instructing children and adults? Then become a volunteer AckerCoach and inspire a young generation for nature and sustainability!

In our award-winning educational programs GemüseAckerdemie and AckerRacker, school and daycare children grow their own vegetables. They experience where the food on their plates comes from and discover nature with all their senses. The goal: a generation that knows what it eats!

We at Acker e. V. support the learning sites with advanced training, a wide range of accompanying materials and energetic on-site help. With a growing community of more than 400 AckerCoaches, we already ackern at more than 1,300 daycare centers and schools throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Are you there?

Your Tasks

As AckerCoach you accompany schools and daycare centers through the Year and provide the participating children, teachers and educators practical knowledge about vegetable gardening. But don't worry: You don't have to be a vegetable professional to become an AckerCoach!

Your commitment

  • Together with us, you will campaign for more appreciation for nature and food and inspire children and educators with your commitment to healthy nutrition and sustainability.

  • In a planting workshop, you prepare the educators and their helpers on site for the upcoming plantings.

  • On one to three planting dates per year, you guide the educators and children at the beds and teach them practical knowledge about vegetable cultivation in a playful way.

Your harvest

  • Beaming children's eyes, delicious vegetables and unforgettable experiences await you in the field.

  • In addition to your qualification as an AckerCoach, you can expand your knowledge of vegetable cultivation and sustainable knowledge transfer in our free training courses and workshops.

  • For your assignments you will receive a fair expense allowance as an exercise leader allowance (§ 3 No. 26 EStG).

  • You will receive a written confirmation of your commitment.

  • You become part of a growing community working together for a more sustainable world and can use it to network.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.

Your requirements

  • A commitment to more appreciation of nature and food gives you pleasure
  • You enjoy guiding and working together with adults and children
  • Good organisation, reliability and initiative are a matter of course for you
  • Regionally, the possession of a driver's license and the willingness to drive your own vehicle is advantageous

The non-profit association was founded in 2014 by Dr. Christoph Schmitz. In 2021, the name of the association was changed from Ackerdemia e. V. to Acker e. V.
