Helping where help is needed and being a companion on the side of those who need support. For 75 years, this has been what defines us and how we work. It was true 75 years ago just as it is today: we respond to the current situation and are committed to the people who had to flee from Ukraine.
Since Tuesday evening (01.03.), in constructive cooperation with the Berlin Senate Administration and the Berlin City Mission, we have set up accommodation for refugees from Ukraine at short notice in Berlin-Friedrichshain. Already we receive a lot of requests for support, for which we are deeply grateful!
The need for support exists until the end of August 2022. Time slots from the beginning of June will be discontinued at the latest at the end of May.
In our kitchen we need assistance with the preparation of breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner. You can also help with serving the food. Especially in the morning we need your support to prepare breakfast!
If you have a valid health passport (red food card), feel free to bring it. However, this is not a prerequisite for the commitment. We recommend a health passport to all volunteers who are regularly involved in the food distribution. We are happy to issue the certificates of volunteer commitment for a free instruction.
In particular Ukrainian, Russian and English, are helpful in all fields of activity, but not a must.
To volunteer with us you must be at least 16 years old.
You can find the refugee shelter Friedrichshain in the Gubener Str. 42, 10min walk away from the U+S-Bhf. Warschauer Straße.
In view of the great interest in helping refugees from Ukraine, the heartfelt request to you:

Since 1946, the UNIONHILFSWERK has been providing social aid out of Christian responsibility. To this day, we remain committed to those who depend on care and support. Our commitment is shaped by our mission statement "to create an individual quality of life" in order to help people to help themselves. Originating from 70 years of civic involvement, voluntary involvement continues to be a fundamental pillar of our commitment to others. As an alliance of the corporate foundation, association, six non-profit organisations and support foundation, UNIONHILFSWERK offers a wide range of possible applications and a commitment-friendly framework.
