Your engagement to young refugees from Ukraine!
SchlauFox e.V.
About the volunteering opportunity
Pupils with a refugee background often face major challenges in everyday school life: In addition to the subject matter, they have to learn a new language, find their way around the Hamburg school system, come up with ideas for the future, master a school-leaving qualification, and, and, and...
Due to the current political situation, over 4200 young refugees from Ukraine are now already attending Hamburgs schools. For the new school year 2022/2023, we will therefore expand our program with Ankerlicht_BlauGelb and focus on accompanying young refugees from Ukraine at two schools, who would like to complete a school degree in the next 1-3 years. Whether they want to complete a German or a Ukrainian degree - their individual educational goal is the focus of the mentoring. In addition, the aim is to facilitate the young people's access to the German language and leisure activities in Hamburg.
Your Tasks
As a volunteer mentor, you will provide 90 minutes of individual support in learning German and other subjects on the premises of our partner schools once a week for one year. Since each mentee has different requirements, the mentors organize the time together individually, according to the needs of the young people and their own abilities. You will accompany the student on his or her educational path and assist in learning with professional support, life experience and motivation!
What's needed
Special knowledge and skills are not required. During the mentoring period, the mentors are supported and accompanied by SchlauFox in the form of regular counseling, team meetings, professional advice and supervision. In addition, they are sensitized through further training in the areas of interculturality and trauma and prepared for the voluntary commitment.
Time required
As a volunteer mentor:in you will support:
- for 1year
- once a week
- 90minutes per week

According to the measles protection law in effect since March 1, 2020, people who work in community settings (which our mentors comply with - they meet with their mentees in their school) and were born after Jan. 1, 1971, must have a measles vaccination.
In our association and with our cooperation partners (schools), we and our volunteers comply with all currently valid hygiene rules (spacing, hand hygiene, masking, ventilating, testing if necessary).
Where?
SchlauFox e.V.

SchlauFox e.V. supports socio-economically disadvantaged children and young people on their way to education. Our volunteers supervise them in various projects in which they help the pupils to graduate from school, to gain knowledge about healthy cooking and, if they have escaped here, to find their way into the German school life.
