You support the preparation of food and its distribution during a help tour for homeless people and people in need in Berlin.
If you want to get an insight into the project from a voluntary point of view, we recommend the article by Gracia on our blog.
Your tasks are (depending on the shift/time you start):
TOURS ON WEDNESDAYS AND SATURDAYS
TOURS ON SUNDAYS
You should like helping other people, wear weatherproof (warm in winter) clothes, which can get dirty, and be in a good mood. You should be socially minded and able to approach people with many different backgrounds openly and not be afraid of contact with them. For us it is also important that you see for yourself where help is needed, as there will not always be someone to explain everything to you.
You don't need to bring any food or drinks. You are also welcome to bring food or small souvenirs for the homeless (sweets, etc.). Please also take a look at our list of requirements.
Please note that every day and every shift is very individual and sometimes it can be a bit chaotic as our work depends on the available donations and number of volunteers. Therefore sometimes we are a bit late at our distribution stopps. There will be no detailed introduction and not in every situation someone will tell you what to do, so it is important that you are willing to help proactively and you are not afraid to ask questions if something is unclear.
You can join at any time - i.e. at any point of the tour - and of course leave the tour at any station. This means that you do not have to be present for the entire period of the selected date. However, please give us a short notice before you leave.
Every year more people live on the streets of Berlin. Far too seldom someone takes care of them, talks to them or cooks for them. We, the Berliner Obdachlosenhilfe e.V., are a non-profit organisation that would like to make a contribution to a social coexistence at this point.More about the organisation
