youngcaritas is the platform of the Caritas for the social engagement of young people.
Several old products can be transformed in new ones: from jackets to backpacks, from old shirts to pillowcases. Upcycling is like recycling in a way that avoids waste. Though, a smaller amount of energy and products is needed in order to create something new. Moreover, the quality of “waste products” is strongly increased through this process.
We create new from old and the whole thing has a social value: the products are sold to Berlin´s markets and the revenues are invested in social projects of Caritas Berlin.
Every first Tuesday of the month, there´s a NEWCOMERS DAY, for all those people interested in participating, learning about upcycling and also about how to use a sewing machine. We are looking for young people who feel like dealing with any kind of old material in order to create new products that will be later sold in order to create revenues for social projects. After participating in the NEWCOMERS DAY you are welcome to join every wednesday from 6-9pm (this is the regular day and time the project is running- the NEWCOMERS DAY is exceptional on tuesday to get to know each other and get some information about volunteering in this project).
We look forward to more creative ideas and nice ways to expand our range of products. We are a group of about 25 young people from Berlin and we are looking forward making our team bigger!
Co-equal and respectful treatments are very important. We look for committed volunteers who are willing to introduce new ideas while implementing their know-how. Together we can learn from each other! We want a win-win situation for everyone who´s getting involved :)
It's not a must but definitely it is definitely of advantage if you have sewing skills.
Please note: For this volunteering opportunity, you need German skills on the level „Medium German skills“.
Your support is needed on a long-term basis.
Am I covered by accident and/or casualty insurance during the project?
