About the volunteering opportunity

We humans strive for autonomy and appreciation throughout our lives. We want to be seen and heard. This requires a community in which we can participate.

A shared care home is a form of housing in which several people come together to receive (nursing) support without having to give up autonomy and privacy.

Your Tasks

Confidants can relieve and enrich the care home community: they listen, perceive moods, strengthen the perspective of the residents and contribute ideas from the neighborhood.

The possible area of responsibility of a trusted person is deliberately broad. In some residential care communities, the focus is more on listening, being there and supporting individual residents, while in others it is more about small get-togethers, impulses from the neighborhood or helping to think about issues of participation and togetherness.

How the role is actually structured always depends on two things: the character of the shared home and the person who is involved as a confidant. There is no rigid standard task, but rather a jointly agreed role that suits this shared home and this person of trust and can also develop over time.

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, intermediate German skills are required.
As a "Vertrauensperson", you need patience and a willingness to learn. People in a PWG often experience a change in dementia, which can lead to challenging behavior, especially with regard to communication. This requires calm, understanding and a certain ability to adapt to the prevailing dynamics.

Time required

Regularly
Approx. 2 hours per week.
On weekdays, on weekends, during the day
We are looking for "Vertrauenspersonen" (person of trust) throughout Berlin.
The time offered can be adapted to the needs of the residents and your own time availability. There is sure to be a suitable shared care home for you!

Important notice

As a confidant, you are not alone. The already established players, the residents themselves and we as a contact point for confidants help to ensure success. Our circle of confidants is also looking forward to new people :-).
