About the volunteering opportunity
The Berliner Büchertisch is a project organized as a nonprofit association and cooperative. We are committed to ensuring that everyone can afford to read. We accept book donations and distribute them to social and cultural institutions. The project is funded by the sale of a portion of the books in two social bookstores and an online shop.
Your Tasks
Job Description:
- Receive donations and sort them by medium
- Help unpack donations
- Repack items
- Sort books into broad categories
- If necessary, stack or carry boxes of books (not required)
Bonus:
- You’ll find great books and can expand your personal library when the opportunity arises
- If no donations come in, you can sit back and read
If you’re not sure whether this is right for you, feel free to send an email anyway and come check it out in person.

Berliner Büchertisch e.V.
Our vision: Reading should be affordable for everyone - independent from his or her age, salary, social status or origin. That’s why the Büchertisch as a non-profit association supports libraries in schools, kindergartens, prisons and many other institutions. We also work in different projects to help children to access books and reading materials.
Moreover we supply various stations for free books throughout Berlin. In creating jobs and apprenticeships for people from various social backgrounds – from former homeless people to young professionals – we try to give people new perspectives.
