About Patenkinder Berlin

Target group(s)

The children:

Our target group are on the one hand children who have a care degree and on the other hand refugee children. For these girls and boys we are looking for volunteer godparents. These are selected by us, trained and accompanied during the time of the sponsorships. The children and the volunteers spend 2-4 hours together once a week. During this time, depending on the age and interests of the children, they can go on excursions together, go to the playground, do handicrafts or read aloud. The children are usually between 3 and 12 years old.

The volunteers:

Our volunteers must be of legal age. After all, it takes some life experience, a sense of responsibility and stability to be able to volunteer as a godmother. However, there is no upper age limit. However, everyone should be able to realistically assess the extent of their individual resilience.

We are always happy about diversity. It helps many godchildren if their godparent does not look at things or decide in the same way as their parents. The children benefit when they can experience other ways of life, experiences and approaches through the sponsorship. It is important that godparents can form positive relationships and that they are reliable, sensitive and patient caregivers for the children. It is also important to be open to the needs of the child and to a new culture.

Funding

Patenkinder Berlin is funded within the framework of the master plan measure of the Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family Affairs.

Objectives

Our goal is to offer the children and young people in our project an additional relationship. We provide them with a person who supports the children as a cultural mediator, who offers himself as a reference person and reliable partner for many questions and obstacles, who enables the development of language skills and social learning. Through this effective 1 to 1 support, the self-confidence of the children is strengthened and the families of the sponsored children are also involved, since especially the initial phase of the sponsorship takes place in the family and also later a strong connection to the family plays a major role in the sponsorships.

Your support helps

Your cooperation supports children and young people who are in a special situation and enables them to have nice experiences and a positive relationship experience.
