AWO Familienglobus gGmbH

An opportunity for refugees or (young) people in difficult life situations

When: no matter when / by arrangement

The AWO Düsseldorf participates in the sponsorship program of the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) "People strengthen people". This program strengthens social cohesion by enabling encounters between people of different origins and from different social milieus.

We are looking for volunteer godparents to support and accompany people in 1:1 contacts. A voluntary mentorship is....

  • a voluntary relationship offer for both sides with friendly interaction at eye level.

The regular meetings take place about 1 x per week for and are designed together in terms of needs, interests and duration.

For this project, we are now looking for godparents. The commitment of the mentorships includes, for example:

  • Applying and deepening language skills in everyday situations,
  • Support in matters of everyday life (letters to authorities, etc.),
  • Support in the orientation in the school and / or. Training system,
  • Support in coping with the subject matter, tutoring,
  • Common leisure activities, making social contacts,
  • Support in access to other associations and the like.

We assume weekly meetings in the framework of 2-3 hours over a longer period (between 3 and 6 months). For mentorships with unaccompanied minor refugees is the guardianship, for children from families, the parents are to be included. Also possible and desired are mentorships for families and between families.

According to legal requirements, the presentation of an extended certificate of good conduct is required.

The godmothers and godfathers are registered by us as volunteers. In this context, there is insurance coverage.

There is  the possibility to participate in training or exchange with other godparents / godmothers.
