SOS MEDITERRANEE Deutschland

SOS MEDITERRANEE is a European humanitarian organization for sea rescue in the Mediterranean. SOS MEDITERRANEE was founded in 2015 in Germany and France as a civil society response to the deaths in the Mediterranean and the failure of the European Union to prevent these deaths. Today, we work in a European network with teams in France, Italy, Switzerland and Germany.

With our rescue ships Aquarius (2016 - 2018) and Ocean Viking (since July 2019), a professional rescue crew and a medical team, we are deployed in the central Mediterranean, where people are fleeing the most serious human rights violations in Libya on unseaworthy boats. Since the start of our operations, we have been able to bring more than 39,000 people to safety from distress at sea.

Objectives

SAVE LIVES. With a professional and experienced team, we carry out rescue missions in the central Mediterranean to save people from drowning.
PROTECT & ACCOMPANY. A medical team on board provides basic medical care. We protect survivors on the Ocean Viking until they come ashore in a safe harbor.
WITNESS. We document the situation in the central Mediterranean and bring the stories and fates of those rescued to the public so that their voices are heard and the humanitarian crisis is finally brought to an end.
