NesT - Neustart im Team

The humanitarian admission program NesT - Neustart im Team gives particularly vulnerable refugees in Germany the chance of a life in safety and dignity. Refugees whose life, freedom, safety, health and rights are also at risk in their first country of refuge are nominated for the program by the UNHCR. The German authorities organize the selection and admission.

About NesT - Neustart im Team

Target group(s)

The aim is to form a mentoring group consisting of at least four people. You do not need any previous experience in refugee work. You can get together in advance or join an existing group individually. The good thing about this is that the responsibility is spread over several shoulders. Depending on your own abilities and skills, you can contribute individually.

NesT - Neustart im Team is a joint project between the state and civil society. The civil society contact point is run by the German Caritas Association, the German Red Cross and the Protestant Church of Westphalia. The Federal Ministry of the Interior and Homeland, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, the Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration and the Federal Government Commissioner for Anti-Racism are responsible for the program.

Objectives

NesT enables the reception of particularly vulnerable refugees. Civil society is involved both ideally and financially in the sense of "community sponsorship". By the end of 2025, 500 refugees can still be admitted via this route. These people can be admitted in addition to the places offered purely by the state for resettlement refugees. Refugees who come to Germany via NesT go through the resettlement admission procedure and are matched with suitable mentoring groups before entering the country.

Your support helps

a refugee or a refugee family to enter Germany safely and legally and to settle in locally. Together with the group, you will help them to arrive and settle in, for example by accompanying them to the authorities, making contact with school, education and training and initiating meetings with the local community.
