The association campaigns for fair educational opportunities in Kreuzberg by providing voluntary learning mentors. The learning mentors support children from socially disadvantaged families with their schoolwork (twice a week) and are important contacts for everything to do with school. The volunteers go directly to the families (mainly Turkish and Arabic-speaking families) to establish contact with the parents and get them on board with their children's school development. The educational background of the parents ranges from illiteracy to a university degree. What is important is not so much the formal level of education as the signal to the children that the parents, learning mentors and other caregivers care about their children's educational success and want to accompany and motivate them on their journey. The association looks after both primary school children and young people up to school-leaving age. The elhana team provides advice and support to the volunteers and offers training and joint meetings. We are also involved in setting up an education network for the Graefekiez and are well connected with various local organizations and schools in the district.
