Project Wings gGmbH
Project Wings is an environmental protection organization that is building the world's biggest recycling village from plastic waste as its main project in Indonesia.
In many developing countries, there is no functioning public waste management or waste collection system. In Indonesia in particular, the world's second largest producer of plastic, this poses an increasing threat to flora and fauna. In the Bukit Lawang region of Sumatra, there is a complete lack of adequate waste disposal facilities, forcing residents to burn all plastic waste openly or dispose of it in nature. For this reason, Project Wings is working with the government, the village elders and the mayor of Bukit Lawang to set up a waste management system for 10,000 inhabitants in the region.
