Känguru- hilft und begleitet
The partnership project " Känguru-hilft und begleitet" of the Diakonisches Werk Berlin-Brandenburg-Schlesische Oberlausitz exists for over 12 years and is financed exclusively by donations and the financial support of various supporters. All donations go 100% into the project and are used for training courses and small monthly allowances for our volunteer family sponsors, as well as for coordination work at the individual locations. Kangaroo now has 10 locations in Berlin and one in Brandenburg (Falkensee).
About Känguru- hilft und begleitet
Target group(s)
Our offer is free of charge for families! It is aimed at families without sufficient social contacts and family ties or with a need for additional support with children after birth up to the age of 12 months. Käguru is therefore a prevention project in the sense of child protection.

Objectives
Die besondere Stärke von Känguru liegt bei unseren ehrenamtlichen Familienpat*innen, die den Familien Zeit und Beziehung zur Verfügung stellen. Sie erweitern als Vertrauens- und Bezugsperson das familiäre Netz und bereichern die Familien durch ihre Erfahrungen. Unsere ehrenamtlichen Mitarbeiterinnen besuchen die Familien zu Hause und unterstützen sie in der neuen Lebenssituation emotional und alltagspraktisch. Dadurch werden elterliche Kompetenz und Selbstwertgefühl gestärkt, die Mutter-Kind-Bindung sowie die sozial-emotionale und kognitive Entwicklung der Kinder unterstützt.
