Dein Sternenkind Stiftung

The Dein Sternenkind Foundation organizes volunteer photographers to take memorial photos of stillborn children or children who have died shortly after birth. The pictures give affected parents lasting memories of their child and support them in their grief. All assignments are free of charge and are coordinated promptly and sensitively.

Objectives

Memorial photos for star children
The foundation provides photographers on a voluntary basis who take free souvenir photos of the child in particularly sensitive cases - when a child dies before, during or shortly after birth. These photos are given to the parents concerned.

Support in coping with grief
The opportunity to have "tangible" memories of the lost child is intended to help parents come to terms with their grief. The pictures serve as comfort, as visual proof of the child's existence and as a personal memento.

Visibility and recognition of star children
The foundation is committed to ensuring that the experiences of parents who lose a star child are recognized by society. By treating children who only see the light of day for a short time or not at all with respect, the stigma surrounding pregnancy loss should also be reduced.

Building a network and promoting free participation
The foundation coordinates a network of volunteer photographers across Germany. The aim is to accompany and photographically support families during their most difficult time with empathy, respect and sensitivity.

Free of charge for affected families
A key aim is to ensure that the souvenir photos are free of charge for parents. The foundation finances this through donations and foundation resources.

High accessibility and coverage
The foundation strives to support as many requests as possible and to create nationwide availability. There is now a relatively large network (several hundred photographers).
