Multitude e.V.
The association Multitude e.V. is a network of volunteers who offer German courses and childcare in various refugee shelters in Berlin - free of charge and on an equal footing. The association has its origins in the "German Lessons Initiative", which was launched in 2001 by a few students from the Free University of Berlin. German lessons: Multitude regularly gives free German lessons in Berlin refugee homes. All students come voluntarily as often, as long and when they want. We encounter different situations in different camps. That's why we organize the lessons in spontaneous small groups or continuous course book groups - and usually offer childcare at the same time. Childcare: Childcare takes place (not on all days) parallel to the lessons. We play outside together, do arts and crafts and try to give the children support - and their parents the freedom to learn in peace. Continuity and regularity are particularly important for childcare. Our motivation: We provide language support with the aim of creating one of many conditions for different people with different backgrounds in different life situations to be able to meet their needs and assert their interests - to raise their voices. For us, promoting the German language does not mean educating people to a "German" way of life, but rather the basis for a self-determined life in this country, in which one's own origins and goals are not abandoned.
