Copernicus Berlin e.V.

The non-profit association "Copernicus Berlin e.V." has already awarded over 200 scholarships to young students from Eastern Europe and Central Asia in the past 20 years.

COPERNICUS BERLIN is organised by young people (students and graduates) on a voluntary and non-profit basis. Young Berliners organise a six-month semester abroad for young, disadvantaged Eastern European students who cannot afford to study abroad. The full scholarships are financed by foundation funds, donations or sponsorships that we raise ourselves. The young members of COPERNICUS BERLIN also do this, developing skills, gaining experience and having fun - whether as mentors, in fundraising or public relations. The scholarship holders are the focus of our voluntary work.

In the scholarship sponsorship programme, scholarship holders experience Germany first-hand: first of all, a semester of university studies at Humboldt University and at the Free University of Berlin, followed by at least six weeks of internship, living with a host family, plus accompanying seminars and lectures, as well as excursions and visits, parties and celebrations. The many years of our work have strengthened us in our conviction that the scholarship holders enrich their horizons through the encounter of other cultures and broaden their democratic awareness.

About Copernicus Berlin e.V.

Target group(s)

The special thing: Copernicus Berlin e.V. is organized exclusively on a voluntary and non-profit basis by young people (students and graduates). As it were, young Berliners organize a six-month semester abroad for young, needy Eastern European students who cannot afford to study abroad. The full scholarships are financed by foundation funds, donations or sponsorships that we raise ourselves. This is also what the young members of Copernicus Berlin e.V. do, developing skills, gaining experience and having fun - whether as mentors, in fundraising or public relations. The focus of our work is the scholarship holders, at the moment three students from Belarus.

Objectives

In the scholarship support programme, scholarship holders experience Germany first-hand: first a semester of university studies at HU, then at least six weeks of work experience, living with a host family, accompanying seminars and lectures, as well as excursions and trips, parties and celebrations. Our years of work have strengthened us in the conviction that the scholarship holders enrich their horizons with the encounter of other cultures and that their democratic consciousness is broadened.
