Objectives

JOB-MENTORING helps secondary school students to find an apprenticeship. Only 30% of young people get an apprenticeship place at the end of secondary school. Two years after finishing secondary school, still less than 50% of young people have managed to get a training place. This is exactly where JOB-MENTORING provides a remedy: Volunteer job mentors, most of whom have a successful professional life behind them or have enough time due to a reduced professional activity, accompany middle school students during the transition from school to work. Our mentors support the young people in finding a career, in the application process and in preparing for a career. A mentor usually provides one-to-one coaching for 5 to 10 young people from a class over the course of a school year. Around 50% of the mentored young people receive an apprenticeship.

Your support helps

We are looking for job mentors to help middle school students find an apprenticeship. Our volunteers have been helping young people find apprenticeships as job mentors since 2006. We are looking for motivated people who would like to volunteer at Munich's secondary schools. They support young people in finding a job, in the application process and in preparing for a career.

It is a pleasure to give back as a job mentor something that you have received in life. With the time commitment of just one morning a week, you can do something useful after your active career and benefit from a sense of achievement yourself. Receive personal gain and social recognition through your community involvement.

At present, around 35 mentors at 19 Munich secondary schools are working together with teachers, school social work, Jade, the careers advisory service of the employment agency and representatives of the business community to prepare young people intensively for working life and support their protégés throughout the application process.

As a job mentor, you will supervise the pupils of an entire class who would like to learn an apprenticeship trade. This is usually about 10 students per class.
