About the volunteering opportunity

We are looking for volunteers who would like to develop and run themed workshops together with us. Our workshops deal with a variety of topics that are intended to contribute to the integration of people with a refugee or migrant background. Some topics include: Daycare and housing search, women's health, empowerment topics, dealing with racism, volunteering in Berlin, waste separation, parenting workshops, school in Germany, among others.

Our participants are people from shared accommodation for refugee families who mostly speak German A2-B1. It is therefore important to us to organize the workshops in easy language. The accommodations are located in Lichtenberg, Marzahn and Treptow-Köpenick.

Workshops usually take place once a month.

Your Tasks

- Thinking along workshops (process, subtopics, methods)
- Preparation and follow-up (accompanied by us)
- Presentation (ppt)
- Conduct the workshop with us or together with other volunteers
- Participate in preparatory meetings or exchange rounds

What's needed

For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
- Good knowledge of German
- Other languages are also an advantage, but not a must (Arabic, Persian, Russian, Kurdish)
- Like to work with groups, people
- Happy to speak in front of a group, or just want to learn and practice :-)

Time required

Project-based
On weekdays, on weekends, during the day
Workshops usually take place once a month, but before that there are preparatory meetings.
In total, there are about 8 hours of commitment per month.
However, these are scheduled flexibly with the volunteers, depending on their time capacities.

Where?

Malteser Hilfsdienst e.V. Berlin

"...because proximity counts" is the guiding principle that drives us to provide help where it is needed. In Berlin, we are there where we are needed with over 1,000 volunteers, and throughout Germany with over 52,000 volunteers: in disaster control, in integration, for lonely, elderly and sick people, for children and young people, for the dying and the grieving.
