About the volunteering opportunity
The "Degnerstraße" shared accommodation for refugees in the district of Lichtenberg has been run by PRISOD GmbH - a social service provider commissioned by the state of Berlin - since 2002.
PRISOD GmbH currently runs 10 housing projects across Berlin, in which people from over 25 different countries of origin have found a temporary home.
GU Degnerstraße is located in a quiet, green residential area in the Alt-Hohenschönhausen Nord district. It has a total of 84 residential units, each with a kitchen and a bathroom, and is family-friendly accommodation. The house has various rooms for numerous activities. Children from the accommodation as well as children from the neighborhood meet up to play together in the courtyard and playground belonging to the building.
However, a refugee shelter is not a lonely island. We rely on the solidarity of the surrounding neighborhood to help refugees integrate successfully. Volunteer supporters play a major role in our work!

Your Tasks
Sometimes all it takes is a little help and it goes by itself - the children and young people living with us are always happy to receive support with their homework - especially for the subjects German, math and English. Homework help takes place in our children's club from Monday to Friday between 2 and 5 pm. There is the opportunity to get involved in small groups with other volunteers or full-time employees.
