About the volunteering opportunity
The Familienhebammen-Zentrum Hannover, which opened in 2013, offers help and support to pregnant women, new mothers and families who find themselves in difficult social or psychosocial situations. It is run by DIAKOVERE and the city of Hanover. Fathers and mothers are strengthened in their parenting skills here. Children benefit greatly from a secure bond with their caregivers. This can have a positive effect on the child's overall development. We offer advice and open consultation hours as well as a wide range of courses and meetings, such as our parents' café. We are also supported by volunteers.
Your Tasks
We are currently looking for committed individuals or couples who have the time and desire to accompany a young family for a period as a "grandparent substitute". Anyone who would like to take on the role of a grandparent is very welcome! This can be from your mid-40s, but perhaps also when you reach retirement age. As long as you feel physically and mentally fit, the commitment is also open to 80-year-olds.
You will get to know the family and discuss your commitment with the full-time staff. This could be a walk with the baby carriage while the mother attends a course with us or a visit to the playground in the afternoon or a craft session together.

For this volunteering opportunity, basic German skills are required.
What you can bring with you:
- Enjoy spending time with children.
- Empathy and understanding for the situation of single mothers.
- A little time - a few times a month, as required.
- A willingness to do something with the children.

Working with children is a very sensitive area. You will need a certificate of good conduct and proof of measles vaccination in advance for your assignment.
