About the volunteering opportunity
Whether it's Z-sauce, N-kiss or the "Where do you really come from?" question: in everyday life, we quickly put our foot in our linguistic mouths, often without realizing it. Our language is riddled with narratives that mark the foreign and create inequality - this often happens unconsciously.
Even Allies who campaign against queerophobia, ageism or ableism sometimes unintentionally fall into these traps when dealing with people of color. But how can we be more aware of the language we use? How can we recognize and avoid racist structures in our everyday communication?
In a keynote speech, diversity expert and journalist Thuy-An Nguyen will show us how we can reflect on our language, avoid racist no-go's and communicate more respectfully. Through interactive exercises, participants will be given valuable tools to expose exclusionary language patterns - whether in personal conversations or in social media comment columns.
Your Tasks
The lecture is aimed at media professionals and digital activists who want to be sensitized to racist structures and learn the basics of discrimination-sensitive language. No previous knowledge necessary.

ichbinhier e.V.
The ichbinhier e.V. originated from the Facebook action group #ichbinhier. We are the legal form that builds and offers awareness-raising and educational work based on the experiences of the group members' daily counter-speech work. We give talks, advise companies, other associations, political institutions and many more on the topic of hate speech online. We also offer practical training for counter-speech in our boot camps.
