About the volunteering opportunity
Our reception center is home to people who have only been in Berlin for a short time and usually speak very little German. This is a particular challenge when they go to appointments with the authorities or doctors and can only communicate very little. This makes it difficult to communicate with the social team at the accommodation and the staff at the authorities, doctors, etc.
Your Tasks
In close consultation with our social team, you will accompany residents to appointments and act as a language mediator (Arabic, Farsi, Russian, Turkish). You can accompany individual appointments or, if you wish, accompany a person/family on a longer-term basis. This can be arranged individually.
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
It is essential that you speak Arabic, Persian, Russian or Turkish.

It would be necessary for you to have time during the week during the day, even if only on individual or specific days, as appointments with authorities or doctors are involved. However, this can be arranged individually.

Location

Asylum seekers from various countries of origin live in the refugee accommodation in Westend. The small accommodation, which is home to around 95 people, is run by a small full-time team from LfG-B (Berlin's state-owned operator for refugee accommodation). It has a large garden and is located on the same site as "Ulme 35".
