About the volunteering opportunity
The grand vision of youmocracy is to motivate more young people across Germany to engage with socio-political issues or become politically active. School workshops are one step on the way to achieving this and are intended to arouse pupils' interest in socio-political issues and establish a respectful approach to different perspectives. They should be empowered to formulate and defend their own opinions in a well-founded manner. The workshops each comprise an input phase on the topic of discussion culture, an information phase on a current political topic and the discussion phase, which is led by the moderators. Current political topics are presented in an age-appropriate way and then the space is opened up for discussion about them.
Your Tasks
Volunteers can get involved in the school team both in theoretical work (designing workshops) and as facilitators at schools. In a small team, we develop school workshops with different thematic and methodological focuses and consider how the topics can be communicated well to the pupils. These are then carried out at schools. Of course, it is also possible to get involved only as a "facilitator" or only as a "theorist".
What's needed
For this volunteering opportunity, advanced German skills are required.
No special prior knowledge is required, but an interest in working with children and young people or familiarization with political issues is a prerequisite. If you decide to run workshops on site, you will receive training from us beforehand.
Time required
We work hand in hand as a team. We meet every two to three weeks via Zoom. If necessary (and only if there is personal capacity), small tasks are distributed up to the meeting in order to put together a workshop "piece by piece".
For the implementation of workshops on site, we also discuss in the team who has the desire and time capacities or the shortest journey.
