Volunteers needed to teach German to adults

Haus Leo is an accommodation for refugees and therefore a place where people can feel safe and secure, as well as welcome and valued. Haus Leo provides accommodation for up to 164 asylum seekers and recognized refugees and offers living space in single and double rooms as well as 2-room apartments. The people are assigned by the LAF (State Office for Refugee Affairs). A versatile team of specialists supports the people accommodated in their integration and orientation in our society and provides social work and psychological support to those who primarily belong to the group of "particularly vulnerable refugees".

Activity: Not all of our residents have the opportunity to take part in a language course, so you will help adults in the accommodation to learn German in a small group of 3 - 5 people or in a language tandem (one-to-one).

Requirements: You are of legal age and have an open, empathetic manner towards the residents, as well as patience and motivation so that our residents can learn in an atmosphere of trust. You will be able to organize language support independently, so we are looking for a structured way of working and German language skills at level B2. As you will be in direct contact with other people, you will need proof of a measles vaccination (born in 1970 or later). You will also need an extended certificate of good conduct. The costs for the certificate of good conduct will be covered by the Berlin City Mission.

Time required: 1-2 hours per assignment, 1-2 times per week

When: Flexible, by arrangement

What we are looking for: You are friendly and interested in communicating with people from other cultures. We also welcome initial experience in teaching learning content and are looking for a long-term commitment of at least 6 months.

Expected attitude: You are convinced that every person is given inalienable dignity. You have a respectful attitude towards the Christian faith as well as other religions and world views.
