Language mediators wanted for social counseling (Georgian)

Haus Leo is an accommodation for refugees and therefore a place where people can feel safe and secure, as well as welcome and valued. Haus Leo provides accommodation for up to 164 asylum seekers and recognized refugees and offers living space in single and double rooms as well as 2-room apartments. The people are assigned by the LAF (Landesamt für Flüchtlingsangelegenheiten - State Office for Refugee Affairs). A diverse team of specialists supports the accommodated persons in their integration and orientation in our society and provides social work and psychological support to those who primarily belong to the group of "particularly vulnerable refugees".

Activity: You will support our social workers in their counseling sessions at Haus Leo with German-Georgian translation.

Requirements: You are of legal age and have an open, empathetic attitude towards people from other cultures. You should have a good command of the German language. You also need to be very good at dealing with closeness and distance in relation to the people you are translating for. Reliability and the willingness to work with everyone without prejudice should be the basis for this voluntary commitment.
You will also need an extended certificate of good conduct. The costs for the certificate of good conduct are covered by the Berlin City Mission.

Time required: 1-2 times a week for 1-2 hours.

When: Assignments can take place flexibly by arrangement

What we are looking for: You are articulate and enjoy working with people. You have good empathy and sensitivity in dealing with people who are in difficult life situations or have had traumatic experiences in order to create trust and build supportive relationships from the very first conversation.

Expected attitude: You are convinced that every person is given inalienable dignity. You have a respectful attitude towards the Christian faith as well as other religions and world views.
