Gehrenseestraße shared accommodation
Albatros gGmbH has a great interest in sustainable projects. Follow-up projects and facilities are therefore also to be created in the area of working with refugees. The Gehrenseestraße shared accommodation opened on 25.06.2016 and has since been the next stage of accommodation for refugees. Around 190 people live in a large building complex together with "old and new Berliners" and the residents of the Albatros mother and child project. The integrative character of the house creates a low-threshold opportunity for people to live together, where they can meet each other as neighbors and not as strangers.

For the refugees, the move from emergency accommodation to shared accommodation means a step towards greater autonomy and more personal responsibility. The residents are prepared to live independently and autonomously while still receiving support from the professional staff on site.

We are looking for committed volunteers who enjoy helping our residents learn German. Our target group is diverse - from people who are just starting out with the alphabet to learners at levels A1 to C1.

Your task is to accompany the residents individually or in small groups in their everyday life and learning routine. This is not about traditional teaching, but about practical support: speaking, reading, writing and listening together - with a lot of patience, motivation and enjoyment of the language.

With your commitment, you not only help our residents to learn the language, but also promote their self-confidence and participation in social life. Every hour you give makes a big difference.
